Trip Journal, 1852.

The collection contains Condit's travel journal from Terre Haute to New York, August-September 1852. Most of the journey was made by water. He describes Niagara Falls in some detail, and notes the places he passed, such as Fort Defiance and the first Washington Monument. The journal is held in the unbound original, as well as photocopy and a mimeograph copy of the typewritten transcript of the journal. Also included are six visiting cards, some with Condit's name.

Juliet Peddle, a Terre Haute native, was an artist and architect. She was educated at King Classical School and the University of Michigan, School of Architecture. She studied in Europe and then returned to Terre Haute and opened her own office in 1939. She remained in business there for more than thirty years. Condit, Blackford, 1829-1903

Blackford Condit was born in Vincennes, Ind. He attended Wabash College and Lane Theological Seminary. After spending an unknown amount of time at Union Theological Seminary in New York, he returned to Terre Haute Ind. and served as pastor of Second Presbyterian Church (formerly Baldwin Church) from 1868 to 1875, when he retired due to ill health.
